PROFESSIONAL LIFE
How did you arrive at Ensign? What path brought you here?
I worked for Telxon Ltd, a UK subsidiary of Telxon Corp the US owner and inventor of the Aironet line of WLAN products which was subsequently sold to Cisco some years later. Telxon were looking for someone to take on this new wireless kit and, being a fan of all things wireless, I volunteered.
I progressed to managing the professional services team at Telxon and we used the services of Ensign for installation of networks and equipment.
When Symbol Technologies (became Motorola and is now Symbol again under the ownership of Zebra) bought out Telxon worldwide I, and a small number of colleagues, moved to Ensign to start Ensign Wireless Systems.
What are you known for professionally? What do you have a knack for?
Making wireless work in difficult places, working out why it wasn’t working in the first place
What are you most passionate about professionally? What most excites you about your work & the contribution you can make?
Doing things properly and making sure we get it right.
Much of our work involves fixing existing systems that for whatever reason just aren’t working as expected.
The worst thing about this is that the user tends to develop a dislike for wireless systems…which helps no-one.
